I don't remember 'naked cornertime' being a standard practice when growing up back in the '50s and '60s; though I do recall hearing about it being employed in some families! I have absolutely no reason to doubt that it did take place back then, as well as in the 1970s as well! In those days so many things happened! Things that would be almost unthinkable nowadays and certainly illegal. Discipline was, in comparison to today - and also over the last 40 to 45 years - so incredibly strict, that it often verged on and even descended into cruelty! The power that parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, baby sitters and adults in general had, was by the standards of later times incredible. I would argue and this is only my opinion, that it was in the '80s that attitudes began to change and even then the old ideas and practices still continued; but perhaps not as 'universally' and with quite the same assurance and confidence as before! As I stress this is just my humble opinion - as to when things slowly started to change - my own experiences and recollections being based on growing up in a typical Mid West towm and community! I'm sure others have different experiences, memories and viewpoints!
