No I don't remember ever getting 'maintainence spankings' or hearing about any other kids getting them either. In the 1970s and 1980s when I grew up in England it was still commonplace to get a hiding/spanking if you misbehaved and actually did something wrong. But I don't remember anybody getting spanked just for the sake of it.
