From what I could see, which was usually quite limited, it varied from family to family. Boys tended to get spanked more often, and the spankings harsher. However, I knew a few girls who were spanked severely and, IMO, abusively.

As much as I was interested in what was happening (I'm a spanko from early childhood,) the actual procedure or ritual of spankings for girls was rarely revealed to me. Parents spanking girls in front of boys was not normal by any stretch, and certainly not if the girl was exposed in an inappropriate way. It doesn't make the best story, but it was what it was.
