I was spanked by my step dad from just before I turned 12 to just before I turned 15. My birthday is in August and I got my first spanking from him in the late summer between 5th and 6th grade and my last spanking 3 days before turning 15 which was about a week before my freshman year of high school. I was never told spankings were stopped, it was right after that last one I never got one again and the regular reminders “if you don’t do X, it’ll be a spanking” was never said again.

My mom spanked me once, and by spanked I mean she gave me 5 or 6 swats in the seat of my pants when I was 6 or 7, never formal. Like I said my step dad gave every real spanking I ever got but it was never he who decided I was to be spanked, that was all my mom - she would decide it, he would do it, she would watch and would scold and lecture before, during and after while he was largely non talkative as he spanked.

I don’t think even the word “spanking” was used before I got my first one or after I got my last one. Why did they stop? I don’t know. My age? The fact I started high school? They decided I didn’t need it? No explanation was ever given.

I do vividly remember when it did start. We were at a birthday party and I was being a total brat, not listening, mouthing off, all that. We left early and on the drive home my mom was reading me the riot act. In talking about “what to do” my step dad said “well you (speaking to my mom) said the other day it might be time to consider the nuclear option,” to which my mom replied, “yep and it’s time to drop the bomb, when we get home Ella, Derek (my step dad) is going to give you a spanking.” I didn’t think I heard correctly but then Derek blurts out “that’s right young lady, and don’t think you’re getting off with some little paddy cake spanking, soon as we get home I am going to put you over my knee and spank your bare bottom real good!”

They followed through on their promise when we got home and probably 200 times more over the course of middle school. The ironic thing was after my first I remember my step dad telling me “now I hope I made my point and we don’t ever have to do this again.” It probably wasn’t a week later I got my second one.
