One of the things that led to my adult interest in spanking was learning about the childhood spankings of a young woman I seriously dated in my early to mid-20's (30+ years ago). She was three years younger and grew up only a few miles from me (though we never met til we were college age).

I grew up hanging around with other boys, and (rarely) heard of their spankings. I was always mildly puzzled by the many different things (belts, spoons, paddles, and even one who claimed to be switched) and ways (bare/nit bare, over the knee, over the arm of a couch, side of a bed) they claimed to be spanked. We knew girls got spanked too, but stories of the specifics were unheard of. I didn't give the subject any thought after I stopped getting spankings around the time I turned thirteen.

That changed with my girlfriend about twelve years later. We were serious enough that we flirted with the idea and talked about marriage, and even having kids. When a discussion of beliefs about discipline came up, we both shared memories of our childhood spankings. Although we both agreed that we believed in good old fashioned spankings, what was more fascinating was those shared memories. Although there were minor differences, the way she described her childhood spankings was remarkably similar to my own memories. That included the rituals her parents used, their lecturing, getting spankings in private, being paddled bare, having a red butt, and (bluntly) stinging so bad she screemed at least two or three times per year. And that happened right up to her early teen years. Her use ofbl the term "sting" to describe spankings was also nee to me, but was very accurate.

I think we were both intrigued about our similar/shared childhood spanking memories because the topic came up somewhat regularly once the ice was broken.
