Did anyone else on the forum have to go and get the object you were going to be spanked with?

My grandmother used to make me go out into the yard and get a switch. My brother and cousins got the same treatment. As far as I can tell, the practice of making the child go and get their own switch is fairly common.

Once, my mom made me go and pick out a belt for her to use on me. That was the only time my own parents made me do that. I had some classmates growing up who said they had to go get the object, but it doesn’t seem to be all that common other than picking a switch.
