In our house spanking didn't begin until a child was old enough to understand why they were receiving the punishment, usually around 3 years old. Younger than that they were put to bed right after supper. My wife and I didn't spank each other until after any "wee ones" were in bed, but any other children who were subject to spanking watched Mom and Dad get their spankings too.
