 Hah! :) I know adults do it because they need regular spankings that mimic the feeling of punishment, or that demonstrate dominance and submission for the sake of it, and to misbehave enough is not practical. The idea is usually that maintenance spankings are less painful, so there is some distinction that makes them not punishment. Trying to translate that to parents spanking children takes a certain degree of crazy.
