That was definitely true for me in the late 70s. My mom and grandma definitely planned for me to grow up to be Latina June Cleaver like they were. I remember some spankings from my grandma being accompanied with a lecture about how talking back and being stubborn were unladylike and would make it harder for me to find a husband to build my own family with.

My sister was born in 1984 and my grandma (whom I loved very much despite how I write about her here) was not able to have as big of a role in raising her and my mom had kind of gotten wise to how the world was changing.
