In some cultures, it is customary to change into a swimsuit on the side of a swimming site.
I can't understand that.
If public nudity is decent, then why is there any need for a swimsuit?
If public nudity is NOT decent, then why isn't it indecent to change into a swimsuit in public?

Yeah, we live in a world of contradictions. Swimming as an activity should be done totally naked in my opinion. It's its nature yet people have chosen to violate this nature with the fake form they've adapted. Water doesn't like the cloth.
I think swimsuits should be optional for adults and completely illegal for anyone under the age of 18.

I agree. Clothing should not be allowed for any sport or gymnastic activity unless there is a possibility of physical injury (eg cricket, fencing ...)
Naked sports were fine in Ancient Greece so why not now?

I do agree that boys and girls should be left to go nude all summer. I did and found it very healthy for me.
Going naked is a gift to share with others as a boy. Girls enjoy it and mothers like no laundry all summer.

I had same type of experience but was a lot more relaxed than your tense tween memories. I would play with girl and boy all the time and use their pool in summer naked. I was 11 girl and boy were 9 and 7. The same mom would also watch her sisters kid and he was 6 and basically naked all summer at home.
First time they took me to beach was summer we became friends and I was told to watch boys and no specifics were given on nudity though.
When we got to beach, younmgest boy walked to beach naked and rest of us had cheapo used speedos from good will. We walked along shore and found other kids to play with. Without being asked I just took off swim suit too as a few others were doing it. I was told to just go naked on beach as it is a gift you give the girls and mom to be easy to take care of in summer
It was a different time and boys were free to do that. Girl wore a suit. We did not hide erections and peed right in ocean if we needed too.
I can not recall anyone concerned we were naked sometimes other girls played with us too.
