I saw links on reddit and quoar that some kids in Oklahoma, Buffalo, NY and parts of California said that not only did boys and some girls swim nude, it also said that PE gym class was nude for boys in some areas up until 1970s.

I have no idea about America but such a lesson happened in my school (British Army children in Germany).
At the age of 9, boys had to do just one lesson fully nude in what was termed a character building one.
I absolutely hate it and couldn't wait to eventually leave that school after that day.

I only saw this at a town pool and boys clubs SO SO long ago!
I was at a foster home at 10 and a she would take me to a pool with another boy probably about 6. She would take us right into boys room unless us both and takes to kids pool. She would have me watch boy( with lifeguard present too) and shee would relax 100 feet away at adult pool all summer. I enjoyed it but felt odd at first. It was often quiet and can say it was fine for boys to do that.
Boys Club was non stop swimming and rather difficult.

My experience was less about nude PE and more about a series of norms rules.
For regular gym class, the policy was you were issued school shorts and were not to wear underwear with them.If you forgot your shorts, you either participated in your underwear or you took the absence.
The loss of modesty happened in the locker room for sports before school started. I did weightlifting. It was never more than ten of us, the coach, and his female assistant. The coach’s office had a large window with a full, unobstructed view of our locker room, and the door was kept open.
So after lifting, we’d shower, and the female assistant would often be right there in the office or moving through the locker room. Nobody thought much of it. A few of the swimmers would just walk from the shower to the pool nude. After years of that environment, you simply stop noticing. Modesty gets worn down by routine. It became a non-event for us, though I imagine it might have been an eyeful for any moms or other students passing by.
There was one school in particular whose locker room was essentially open space. It was just accepted that there would be moms, teachers, and female students coming through while both teams were changing.

In past Voy forums, there were frequent accounts of boys swimming nude in the presence of female observers.
Yet very few of those stories were nailed down to a particular place or a particular time.
This caused some people to suspect that the whole thing was all made up.
Yet here is a story which a diligent researcher could check out:
"I am a woman. I went to Classen High School in Oklahoma. Class of 1953.
"In 1952 and 1953 our swim class was mixed. Both boys and girls. We were issued swimsuits but they clung to our skin and they itched badly. So we girls opted out of wearing the swimsuits because they caused rashes. We swam nude with the boys on many occasions. The boys had a gym class that was nude as well. We girls had a nude Physical Education class that was seperate from our swim class. Looking back in those years ,boy did we have a lot of freedom! A lot of us took it for granted. Our nude Physical Education class consisted of calesthetics like sit ups, and lunges and jogging. No need for a kit in those years. Now when we took our swim class with the boys, we went to a separate building where the pool was located. The boys would be lined up against a wall nude, and we girls had to take a shower before coming into the pool area. After showering we were lined up in a single file line and marched out to where the boys were. Our teacher told us the rules about no horseplaying or running. Then she had us stand beside a boy. It was boy girl boy girl boy girl. When the whistle blew we all jumped into the pool nude.
"Back then it was a tradition to swim nude. Everybody did it and not a complaint was made. I remember playing sports nude with the boys outside behind the school with teachers present. No one said a word about it in those days. All of that changed sometime in the 1970's. It was no longer legal to go outside nude. The new laws caused many a problem for a lot of us who grew up when being nude was tolerated."

That was interesting to read. Most of the posts are 5 years old and from people in certain regions, then some annoying Karens showed up.

Not for me always shirts vs skins all through highschool, but you could be naked for PE in summer camp. Seeing floppy penises was rather funny in summer camp at nearby school till 12
It became a boy thing to spend afternoon naked. Even when camp was over we would be naked after school at a few houses until got cool outside.
A few girls were around afterschool. Some had to stop playing with us and others did not.
