I hope you don't mind, but I figured I'd be the first to start off your discussion and answer the questions you had listed. >Were you spanked as a child if so by who ? I was spanked occasionally as a child. My mother was the primary disciplinarian, though I did get it from a few other family members a time or two as well. My mom's primary method was to have me bend over a piece of furniture and then give me about 3 swats with a kitchen spatula over my pants. My last parental spanking was at 13. >Do you attend church (its fine if not) ? Yes ma'am, I do attend church. My family has attended church my entire life and I continue to do so even as a grown young man. I really enjoy it. >Are you stricter than your parents were? I am not a parent so I have to say this question would be irrelevant to myself. >Do you think society is slowing moving back towards supporting spanking as the main discipline for kids? No, not at all, to be honest. Certainly, spanking is still common to a degree, but not quite so as it was in the past. It will likely always be more widespread among the more conservative and rural areas of the country, but on the whole, spanking as a punishment for children will become less popular and widespread as time goes on. >Have you ever witnessed any spankings in public? Nothing very formal. I have certainly witnessed smacks, and have overheard some moms giving a spanking at church in another room, but I have never witnessed a formal bare bottom spanking. >Do/Would you allow babysitters to spank? Once again I am not a parent, but if I were, it's possible I may permit it. Although of course my wife would have a big say in that. >How should we keep teens growing up too fast? let kids be kids That's a good question. We live in a very digital and technical age, and I would say it's important to limit teens exposure and access to such things, difficult as it may be, and help them see the importance of developing meaningful personal relationships, both with their peers and their elders. Of course they must learn and develop more responsibility as they get older, but it's important to allow them to learn and make mistakes. Don't force them to live up to unrealistic expectations. >Do you use a private/christian/home school approach, are you like me see public schools as failing our kids? how do you counteract their teachings at home? Growing up, my mom homeschooled us and I'm very thankful that she did. >Did you drink out of hoses and have to stay outside till streetlights came on as a kid? Sometimes we did!
