My mom used to make me go downtown with her shopping in the early 1960's but we would get lunch at the Woolworth's counter where a tuna melt & cherry Coke was my favorite. One day we walked in the front door & headed for the lunch counter & there was a bin of rectangular wooden flat backed hairbrushes labeled "PADDLE BRUSH $1.29". I almost fainted but I don't think she noticed them. I took her down another aisle after that.
