Here is a list of eastern teams that are likely looking at NIT bids if they don't win their conference tourneys:

A-10: Rhode Island
B-E: Villanova
B-E: Boston College
B-E: Seton Hall
B-E: West Virginia
Col: Virginia Commonwealth?
ACC: North Carolina
ACC: NC State
ACC: Virginia
ACC: Clemson

8 out of 10 are from the Big East or ACC and the NIT would probably love to have those teams and their large fan bases.
URI would provide a nice matchup with BC and a VCU/UVA matchup could draw interest in Virginia.

We can probably assume that some mid-major tourney favorites (Manhattan, UNCW, Boston U?) won't win their tourneys, so that likely throws 1-2 more teams into the Eastern mix.

I think the Stags might have to get to at least 20 wins. Even at 19, they probably would not be chosen over a Big East or ACC team that has at least a .500 record, especially given that they have been non-competitive versus highly regarded majors.

I would love to Boston College as the 1st choice, but I also would like to see Holy Cross, if they don't win the Patriot.

Would be a heck of a kick in the pants for the Huskies. I would LOVE to see that happen...
