Point of Information- J.S., your assertion that our acceptance rate is about 10.5% is incorrect. The elite schools have acceptance rates in the low 20% range. In fact ours is about 48 or 49%, which in comparison to most colleges is very good.

RM, I think we are both right. See below from the Press Conference the other day. Looks like we get 7,500 applications, we might only accept 48%, which ends up as 850 attending. My point is that Fairfield can easily accept more males than females to even out the percentages.

Question: What impact will this have on enrollment?
Answer: We don't anticipate it will have any impact on our enrollment or the male/female ratio. This week we broke our all-time record for applications just as we have done for four over the last five years. With more than 7500 applications for a class of close to 850, we believe this decision will have no impact. The two athletic teams would have yielded 30 to 35 students.

Accepting more males than females to even out gender is not as easy as it seems. The university actually would be weakening the academic profile of the incoming class should it add more males. Girls have higher sat scores and higher grade point averages than boys, and the school would not want either number to drop in terms of how it is reported to publications such as Barrons.
