Niagara Falls was at one time the 5th largest city in NYS. At the height of the power project it appeared to be an up and coming town.

I won't go into all of the reasons for the decline, however, much had to due with the end of the power project, the building of the Robert Moses expressway, the very poor urban renewal of the downtown area, the lack of urban renewal and follow-through in regard to proposed projects, and projects that just didn't work.

In addition, after the E. Dent Lackey Mayoral era ended, corrupt and ambivalent politics ruled, and from the late 1960's until TODAY, Niagara Falls remains a failed city, with no promising future, ahead.

Niagara University is much like the City of Niagara Falls. It's leadership or lack thereof, has been the keynote of the Vincentians for as long as I can remember; and that my friend is a long,, long time.
