The MAAC is going to struggle in this new age of college sports. When you have MAC programs talking about raising $100,000+ a year to pay players, how are most MAAC teams supposed to compete.

Higher mid-majors are raising much more than the above figure. Big East schools have NIL budgets over a million dollars.

It sucks but this is the new reality. The MAAC is basically a feeder system for higher mid-majors and those schools feed the power programs.

That's a legitimate question that schools like Niagara and Canisius will be forced to ask themselves.

What's the point of being D1 if you can't realistically compete with majority of your mid-major peers?

They'll have to decide if it's worth it just to pretend to be part of something bigger due to their history and tradition or be more successful at a lower level with less fan support and say goodbye to any relevancy.

I think being part of D1 is something Niagara takes a lot of pride in. For that reason alone, I think it's worthwhile for them to stay where they are but it's definitely only going to get more difficult for them to keep up with everyone else.

If the smaller schools decide to leave D-1 like St. Francis, NY, college basketball is DONE.

Why ? Because at least half of the schools fall in the mid and low major category. All of those fans will be GONE. They will reject college ball because they would be angry victims of the NCAA. If Niagara goes D2 0r D3 , I will no longer follow Purple Eagle basketball. Yes, I'll still have my alma mater (MSU) to root for, but I'll hate the NCAA for what it did to programs like Niagara.

The NCAA has abandoned its amateur status due to greed and a lack of ethics. The NCAA can go to hell.
