I know where you're coming from, but all the MAAC programs are in the same situation. Now it's a matter of who out recruits the other coaching staffs. If GP does the better job, all things being equal, Niagara has a great chance to win the conference and go to the NCAA tournament. It has never been more clear than now, to judge a head coaches mettle. No excuses, out recruit the other coaches, period, on a year to year basis.

Good post and points sir.
Agree.
Good news is coaches who make mistakes on recruiting kids get a pass each year

You brought it all into perspective, Soup...in this world of the portal it's all about recruiting on an every year basis...so far GP has done well.

I’d argue and say so far he is being out recruited by Iona, Rider, Quinnipiac and Fairfield. In order to win the MAAC you will need a kid that can score. Although we know Chris Casey was a terrible game coach, he did bring in Dukes from USC. Paulus needs to make a big splash in the portal, get a 4 star transfer kid that isn’t producing in a big conference but has a chance to shine in the MAAC. Unfortunately money talks now, but I’m still hoping this can happen over the next few weeks.

Good points, Matt...I'd say GP is doing OK in the portal, but as you mentioned, not as well as the top teams in the MAAC. And, yes, if we want to win the MAAC we'll have to come up with another Khalil Dukes to get us over the top.

GP has to show his mettle. It's up to him and his staff to outrecruit the other programs in the MAAC. So far he has two 3 stars players and Martinez who was offered by Northwestern and some other noteable programs. The MAAC program that out recruits and out coaches the others will win the conference. If GP is unable to do this over the course of years, then Niagara will bring in another coach, and the beat goes on.

Martinez averaged 2PPG and 2RPG last year at a worse school. What a great get!

Martinez only average 9.7 minutes per game this season. Assuming he gets at least 30 mpg next year his production will go up accordingly....I think he'll be alright.
