SUNY Niagara is one step closer to a regional championship and it didn’t take long to get there.

The Thunderwolves opened the NJCAA Region III tournament with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Finger Lakes Community College in five innings Thursday in Auburn. Top-seeded SUNY Niagara improved to 47-0 and will face the winner of No. 2 Hudson Valley and No. 3 Herkimer at noon Friday in the four-team double-elimination tournament.

SUNY Niagara is one win away from the World Series.

The top-seeded Thunderwolves rolled past No. 3 Herkimer College 10-0 in the second round of the NJCAA Region III double-elimination tournament Friday in Auburn. Matt Barr hurled a two-hitter as SUNY Niagara (48-0) recorded its nation-leading 17th shutout of the season.

This Matt Barr is headed to the Majors!
