In reply to: Griff 's message, "Re: Frank Layden" on Thursday, July 10, 04:42:33pm

Athletic programs at many schools foster succession of great men / women that follow each other and add to the history and continued success. Some of these people of course are still alive under the Niagara umbrella, only when these people pass, they WILL NEVER be replaced, never have been replaced, and eventually nobody will know they ever existed. Only in print.

Calvin, Hubie Brown, Larry Costello, Frank Layden, Taps Gallagher, etc...

No one will EVER come along now or in the FUTURE with a light on them as bright as these man commanded. Each past bright light of Niagara University Athletics will NEVER be replaced nor will they rise to being known all over the planet as these people have been.

Four of the greatest represented only one team and could have all been seen on the bench at the same time. Forty six years of NU basketball were led by the two longest serving coaches, Taps #1 at 31 years and JAM, #2 with 15.

The final employee in the Athletic Department that they let go away, and purposely let go away was Joe Mihalich. He was deserving of a modest pay increase and they basically told him to go hell, and when another school offered him what he deserved to be offered, he thought of himself and his family and basically decided to provide a financial future for them. He would have stayed for far less than Hofstra offered.

I have seen you come to this board and mention, and mention time and time again Frank, Calvin, Hubie, and Larry. You also posted time after time that NU could be what it used to be if they got their shit together (paraphrased) in some form or fashion. Truthful argued much of the same as well. I fought you two like a MF. I did that because I was 100% correct. It's not because I didn't agree with the two of you all the time, but being as close as i have been to the BB program, and MUCH closer than the two of you would ever be. I knew why none of what you wanted would EVER happen. I told you why it would never happen. NU did not want it to happen.
and because of that it never did happen and will never happen.
