They are asking you to dig down deep. But the money is hidden and you can't get a report of how and where it was spent. Nothing about which athlete or anyone else who received NIL funds. For I would venture to say $50K-$65K, NU could have retained the best, the longest serving coach since Taps Gallagher, and the one who watched the banners go up in the rafters due to his achievements, Joe Mihalich. Instead Hofstra doubled his salary and moved them from a helluva mess in Hempstead to an NCAA tournament team. Covid killed the luster for them but the record is the record.

One program had a coach who single handily raised the bar for men's basketball. One guy. And what did they do to keep the bar raised? They let him go and let the incoming President bring his buddy along for years of failure.

NU will never wake up. The letter is an ALARM.

I urge you to go over on the "other" board and read the comments."jhart" never heard of Niagara University when it experienced it's glory days. You read that board and see what interested posters have said, and the best one is and I paraphrase: "What are they building upon"?

They aren't building on a thing. They are starting from scratch after having these programs around, some of them for decades and decades.

Oh so sad....

And do you know what Adrian said when asked why he was willing to take a 99% pay cut?

Answer: "To save the team I love".

He's doing the best he can with what they have given (not given) him to work with.

You see, NU hasn't lost it's way.
It just never had one to begin with.

Simon Gray's in a tough spot, indeed...he's working on a shoestring budget and has no nil to work with.

It's not enough and there has to be an acceptable amount of continual support from year to year. In 2022, 17% of D-I athletes received NIL money so it's not for every athlete, and MEDIAN awards were $62, and the average was about $2750. What else can you do with NIL funds because NU is at a fever pitch in solicitations....well there's this:

Common uses of NIL money:

Paying down debt: Athletes can prioritize paying off high-interest debts like credit card balances and student loans to improve their financial standing.

Saving and investing: Establishing a savings account or investing in a tax-favored retirement account like a Roth IRA can help athletes build a financial safety net and potentially grow wealth for the future.

Covering living expenses and everyday costs: NIL earnings can help with tuition, housing, books, and personal expenses not covered by scholarships.

Building a personal brand and entrepreneurial ventures: Athletes can use NIL funds to invest in developing their personal brand, launch businesses, create merchandise, and pursue other entrepreneurial endeavors.

Supporting families and communities: Some athletes use their earnings to help their families or contribute to charitable causes in their communities.

Investing in future career preparation: NIL income can be used for things like hiring agents, financial advisors, or accessing career development resources.

The University never did anything to engage themselves in sports at the school. Therefore you are back asking the same people over and over again to give more. People will give to a school, but to a financial advisor, an IRA, high credit card balances?

NOW you know what they will not disclose where the funds go, because not everybody is on board with this kind of giving.

"MEDIAN awards were $62, and the average was about $2750."

Numbers like those must include every sport - track & field, soccer, baseball, cross country, tennis and all the rest. I'm sure the figures for just basketball would be significantly higher.

That money is for all sports as you correctly indicated, but still a very small percentage of all athletes receive NIL money. So why are they trying to collect a truckload?

What would Calvin Murphy coming out of Norwalk HS get today?

Calvin wouldn't get a dime of nil money today...of course he's 77 years old.

NU added to it's club sports portfolio by announcing women's flag football.
