Good point, Soup, but we lost a lot of players off those 16-win teams too.

Now instead of being bummed because they leave, consider why? Maldez, if those three guys were pretty good as you indicated why would you blame them for leaving? Wouldn't they like to be on a better team that might win more? Were they poached or do they want to take a chance that they are known and desired by other teams. Only if they get ignored do they lose and that's probably not in the cards for these guys. I believe in the portal for one move. Then you have to sit out. And the age thing is ridiculous when pro players enter the college game.

Either way, it looks like the major majors will always find themselves near the top or very much year to year in the mix and about 200-250 will be a crap shoot every year with the money and coaches being the lead attractions for these players.

I don't blame players for leaving Niagara, I just think it sucks when they do...but looking at it from a "the glass is half full" perspective, this does give GP and his staff at least a chance to upgrade the roster...not exactly brimming with confidence that they will but at least it's a chance.

When you think about it, what you described is the only option the guy has. He has freshman he would probably like a shot at but no guarantee they would stay if he signed them. Portal signees tht will also take off, and players that he knows won't be helping him. You have to wonder where getting an education finds itself because 98% of these guys will be be failures without one. For me, with an anemic ahtletic department with two AD's from the sponsoring teams having the times of their lives at the tournament acting like life couldn't be any better heading two of the worst Division I programs in the nation, it's hard not to drop supporting them with money anymore. I give because I graduated from there and it gave me a good life and I am thankful for that. That'sprobably enough for me to donate by buying season tickets again. My school spirit for sports has all but been eliminated from my conscience.

Add to that being able to turn the channel over to women's softball where they are presently coasting at 0-10.

Who wants to donate to a losing program? I sure don't.
