The portal is looked upon to be the great equalizer or better. Unless you're a 4 or 5 star HS player, you are either overlooked by the BIGS, or you ride the bench for the greater length of your collegiate career. Those 3 star HS kids are fought over by the mid-majors, and even then, the mids are trying to win their conferences with the portal prizes that they can get. A number of mids have been lucky enough to get some real good portal players. Some good enough to help their mid programs hang with the high majors for at least a while in games.
