Tom, like you, I have been checking VCs over the months and have been just as mystified as you about NUs HS recruiting progress, or lack there of.
Terrible !

It tells me that he is way more committed to the portal than to secondary school recruiting.

GP's either committed to the portal or maybe he's not committed to coming back next year.

Wouldn't you think that an established player from the portal regardless of how good would be more desireable than the caliber of a freshman that NU could recruit?

The portal kid(s) situation depends on the quality of the player. There's a lot of stiffs out there in the portal that go from school to school, year after year after year. Some kids are on their 7 th season.

Also, in conjunction with the above, where's the consistency in player development if the kids continue to transfer within the portal ?

Where is NUs next 1,000 point scorer , 500 rebounder and assist leader going to come from ?

For me, it takes a mix. Sure you might want to be top heavy in the portal, but I still think for the name of game and consistency you need at least one or two HS kids in your system. But here's the kicker ! You need a coaching staff and environement that will influence the kid(s) to stay.
Where is NUs next school Hall of Famer coming from ?

Where is the extension of NUs legacy and tradition emanating from ? It would be great to have one or two 4 year kids to help build on that tradition.
