Until Bona is willing to pony up and replace the little 3 games with buy games, the series will continue most years.
Bona does take a lot of flack from fellow A10 schools for their H&Hs agreements, but I think it's mostly fans and not the actual schools.
In 2023, virtually all of the risk lies with SBU. the NU and CC games are always heated and if Bona wins at home or on the road, it doesn't help them with their NET ranking, and if they lose, it can be a resume killer.
Obviously Bona is not in the at large running most years, but even in down years, A10 fans don't appreciate Bona going into A10 play at 7-5 or 6-6 after playing 4 or five road games in the OOC slate.
I think most believe A10 schools should play all their games at home unless they get a marquee road game or a neutral court game against a P5 or elite mid major.
Bona scheduling the way they do not only hurts their at large chances whenever they occur but also schools like Dayton and VCU, etc. because SBU typically plays more road games which typically means more losses and a lower NET ranking.
Peer A10 schools don't really schedule the way SBU does, and I think people are realizing it has a negative impact on the conference as a whole.
To be clear, I am not trying to belittle Siena, CC or NU. All have been strong schools with good talent over the years.
Unfortunately, the guaranteed roster turnover & the all mighty NET rankings makes playing these rivalry games a big risk.
SBU could win by 6 tonight on the road and still drop. So it today's NET ranking, you need to not only win but pound the teams you're playing to jump in the rankings, unless you're obviously playing a top 100-130 program.
It stinks because it's not all that fun to play Coppin State at home, but you will almost certainly fare against those type of schools and you never have to play them at their place.
Most of this isn't even NU or CC's fault, either. Scheduling is expensive and difficult and if you want a schedule like the big boys, then you have to shell out a ton of $$$ to make that happen.
