Rant: So-Called Future Choir Leaders -- , 01:06:40 05/11/01 Fri

Set an example!

I'd like to start by saying "Thank you" to all of those members who are responsible and dedicated enough to come to practice (and actually practice) and are respectful enough to know when to shut up. So, thanks you guys!

Now on to my rant...

I've noticed these things happening gradually ever since, but now, it's becoming a bit too irritating. First of all, I know there are some of you with this whole notion that you're going to be the so-called "future leaders" of the choir. That is very true; you are eventually going to become the "leaders." However, if you keep going the way you're going right now, I'll tell you honestly, the choir will become more corrupted than it probably is now.

Being a "leader" is not a popularity contest. It doesn't mean you can do whatever you want and fool around all the time. It's actually the opposite. If you plan on taking this choir further, you have to learn to act like a leader or at least show that you can be respected. What I see right now is just so disappointing. Future leaders should be setting examples for other members in the choir. (This goes for everyone.) If someone sees you messing around, what will happen? "Oh, so and so is doing it, so I guess it's okay." I don't think so! That's what we want to avoid! If someone sees you messing around in choir, they'll mess around too and we'll never getting any work done. Practice time is practice time. You can be doing your thing before or after, but not during. We should all know how to act when practice starts:
  • Don't be doing your homework. The word explains it. It's homework.
  • Don't be gossiping or looking at miscellaneous things during practice. If that's all you're gonna do, take it outside, or don't bother coming to practice.
  • When another section is learning/practicing a part, respect their time and shut up. Either that or go into the other room and practice your part.
  • As part of singing etiquette, stand when you sing. When you sit, your intonation slips and everyone just gets lazy. You can't sing properly that way.
  • Try your best to come to practice/mass. If you can't, hey, that's understandable. But every voice counts, remember that.
  • Ask questions. If you don't get a part, ask. There's always someone who doesn't get it and is afraid to ask. They'll follow whoever goes first.
  • Moreover, if someone doesn't get a part, help them out.
  • And another thing, don't be yelling and making cracks at Kuya Jon. Sure they're funny to an extent, but we can see it in his face that he's getting a bit annoyed (although he'd never say anything.... ^_^).

I know you might think, "what about you? blah blah blah, bullshit." Well, I know I'm not perfect. I can't always conform to those standards. None of us can all the time. But heck, if you look at it, it's not bad compared to what our so-called "future leaders" are doing. It's not a subject to be taken lightly. What kind of leadership the choir has shows a lot, believe it or not, when other people see us. And we're supposed to be a church choir? Come on. Let's show them that even the "youth" can be responsible.

I don't want to have to point fingers or mention names because I'm pretty sure you know who you are. Don't expect to become a future leader just slacking off and being rude. You don't get in through connections and time alone. Actually, that's the last thing that will get you in. It's all in the way you present yourself as a potential leader. Be responsible. Set an example. Because right now, honestly, if I were a new member and you were leading the choir, I would have little or no respect for you. Just get your crap together and it'll be all good. I just thought I'd say this since no one else will, and it has to be said... cuz it's really irritating. I don't want to be mean yet again, but like I said, no one else is going to bring it up, so I might as well do it. I just want you to know that you won't get anywhere just fooling around. You want to lead the choir in the future? Show it.

Again, thank you to those of you who continually come to practice and show your dedication and responsibility. Who knows? Maybe you will become the future leaders instead of those who expected it... Good job to all of you... (well, maybe not all..) Thanks for your dedication.

We're singing for graduation... according to Ms. Lutter. Actually, we need it for our grade since it was on the syllabus, so it counts as a requirement, even though school's out already.

Umm... I'm confused though. We don't sing for grad. We usually sing for Bacc. I hope they got it right! I have to ask. That would be sad.

So you don't think I should go to the Gala, eh? Well, whatever you think. I'm not really ready either. How much is peasant again? See, I don't even remember. I think I should go check the NEWS page. *ahem ahem* Hehehe.

Hey, I scanned & cropped Ray's picture already. You can put it on now. I don't know what year to put for the Yearbook though. Last year? I don't even remember. What year dudes?

No wait! I have something to say. Chorale sucks. I don't want to perform for the benefit concert. It's way too embarrassing. Ick... Corn??? Eww... We really have to do something about that corn-ass corneography. Sheesh!

Just remember, you're not there to please some immature people, you're there to sing. Don't forget your purpose. If people want to be silly and pester you about childish things, just ignore it. Our New Message Board

    -- Donna, 02:28:18 04/12/01 Thu

Hey everyone! Check it out! Now we have a message board much like the old one! It took me a long time to find it, so don't complain too much okay?

There are a few differences, but they're nothing we can't handle. Here are just a few little notes on using it:

    • You can't post more than once within one minute of your last post (weird huh?)
    • You can have Emoticons for your message header (Hey, there's a Grr... face ^_^)
    • Everything is HTML enabled. You can use HTML in your Subject, Name, and Message Body.
    • After you send your message, you have to click on Go Back to Message Index (or something like that) on the top of the page (right hand side).
    • You'll most likely have to refresh the page after you post your message. You can click REFRESH on the top of the page. I put it there just for you.

That's pretty much all I have to say right now. Enjoy. Aren't you glad I finally found one? *sigh* A little taste of home. The following messages were transferred from the old board.

    04/05/2001 ( 22:56 ) - transferred -- Grae, 02:20:59 04/12/01 Thu

    Get ready!

Okay people, I have something to say and I'm just gonna say it. I really don't care whether it's tactless and what not or whether I really shouldn't be talking about it in public. I don't give a fuck.

First of all, I am not liking how we do some songs "as ridden" and others just the way we want to interpret them. Generally, when we learn new songs, we sing them "as ridden", ulgy or not, because that is what we're reading off of, the actual, and correct I might add, music. When we find mistakes in the way we've been singing some old songs, we change and do it "as ridden". Sometimes, we do it "ass ridden" even though it's ugly, because, that's the way it was written. Sometimes, we sing it just the way we've been singing it, not "ass ridden" because we think it sounds better. Then, all of a sudden, we go back to doing it as written, ugly or not! To tell you the truth, I am getting really tired of it. If you are so ready and so flexible to go ahead and change other people's songs, then you should be just as ready and flexible to sing them the way they wanted you to sing them otherwise, they wouldn't have written it that way. I mean, how would you like it if you wrote a slow and solemn song and then you hear this raggedy youth choir singing it like it was a theme song for some circus? Sometimes it sounds good, but maybe that's not how they wanted it. When we find a mistake and you want us to sing it as written, ugly or not, we sing it as written, ugly or not. When we find a mistake and you/everyone else thinks it sounds ugly because we've been singing it wrong all this time and we think that way sounds better, we do it the old way, the wrong way. If you're ready to sing one song as written, then you better be ready to sing all the songs as written. I know it's hard sometimes to get the music, but that's why we have practice, right? I know, sometimes it sounds ugly, but if we're gonna copy their music illegally, the least you can do is to sing it right. And I'm not saying we should sing every single song as written, because sometimes it's really ugly or we just can't get it after we've tried, but when you switch from one to the other a million times in one night just to please yourself/everyone and make it easier for yourself/everyone, it gets fucking upsetting and it shows we're not as good as everyone thinks we are. We can't fucking sing it because "it's too hard!" Why? 'Cause we suck. "It sounds ugly!" Well, you can't have everything you want.

I don't like being approached just because there's a conflict, but when I am, I "give it to you straight" and I tell you that. It's up to you whether you wanna believe me or not. I really couldn't care less. Some things are true whether you believe them or not. You know what? Get it straight and know who your friends are because your confusion is confusing me and I do not want to get involved in these juvenile playground misunderstandings because it really does not concern me. If you want me to listen, it's fine, I'll listen, I don't mind. But let me tell you, it gets funny when everyone comes to you talking about everyone else and everyone's just talking smack about each other, I don't even know why you guys even bother pretending you like each other. If you're so ready to talk, you better be ready to listen. And also, remember the promises you made because they mean something.

And all you freaken pedophiles in choir better keep your hands, feet, tongues and who knows what else, to yourselves because it is causing much more trouble than you care to know about. I don't know why you weren't smart enough to know that it was wrong to start, but you better be smart enough to know you have to stop. Leave these damn minors alone 'cause it is disgusting and it is bullshit. If you want it that bad, you can wait till they're legal. Otherwise, go get yourself a hooker. You all better just get yourselves collected because if you don't watch it, I will turn you in myself and believe me, I will have much pleasure doing so.

    The end.

I think I'll be Vegeta today.
But anyway, I just wanted to say that we should've been more strict. I mean, we said it, but we didn't do it. I guess because we were really excited before that time *ahem ahem* (that was funny). And I am pretty sure that he did get a form because I saw him take one when Ligaya was passing it out. I don't mean to single you out, but everyone freaken knows already so who the hell cares. And it serves you right anyway. As I was saying, I think we stayed a little long 'cause that was expensive! I hope no one got in trouble.

See, they really need a "Grrr..." face in this thing. I'm still trying to get used to the whole thing, I mean, with the automatic BR's and stuff 'cause sometimes I end up putting an extra one or something. This thing ain't so bad. I think it would've been better if they put this whole response thing on the bottom like the other one so you can see the messages right away. Know what I mean, jellybean? But yeah. Just wanted to share.

    KARAOKE + MINORS (Rant)

Okay, I'm pretty sure everyone had fun at our first Karaoke Night, right? I'd like to thank all the people who were RESPONSIBLE enough to turn in their permission forms.

This is not supposed to be a joke! We made those forms for the minors for a reason! And that was apparent when ONE person did not even give a form to his parents... and what happened? He got in trouble and gave the choir a bad rep with his parents. The situation was so full of lies it just pisses me off. That was the whole point of giving out forms. We made special arrangements for minors to be let in to the karaoke bar. As you probably saw, the sign said, "No Minors! No Exceptions!" We set that up so everyone can be included in the fun. And for one person to mess that up, especially a new member, is just very disappointing.

Having something in writing gives us back up so you cannot possibly lie to your parents about where you were going that night. Also, if you have to leave by a certain time, the SMART thing to do is to TELL SOMEONE! If you think we are there to save your ass, think again. You have to take responsibility for your own actions. We did our part, you can't rely on the choir to cover up for your delinquencies.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but really, everyone else was smart enough to understand the situation except one person. I don't want to pick on anyone, but please, you really should have known better. It's even more disappointing that his friend didn't even have the sense to tell anyone about the situation. You really have to learn to take this seriously.

Because of that, if ever we have another fellowship like that, you either show me your damn form, or you won't be able to go. No joke. I don't care if you travelled 100 miles just to go, if you don't have permission IN WRITING, we're just going to send you back home. I don't know how many times I must stress the point of those forms. Don't take it lightly. Those are the exact situations we tried to avoid. It only takes one person to fuck it up. By next time, I hope people learn from it. But the way I see it, I don't think we'll be planning one like that for a long long time.

That's all I have to say. Once again, I really want to commend all of you who DID turn in your forms. That was very responsible of you and I'm proud of you. Yay! BUT LET'S NOT HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPEN AGAIN. (sorry, i'm really pissed off about that. you would be too if someone told fibs about where they were going and used you as an alibi. that's just bullshit.)

    MESSAGE BOARD
    Um.. Kuya Jon... this is a message board (sort of), but it's not the same message board we've been using. I said goodbye to old one... the good one.. the one that's been with us since the very first MOS site... ;_;
This is a temporary board until I can find a message board like the last one... All the message boards I've seen don't do the whole show-the-entire-post thing. You have to click on the subject in order to read the post. And that sucks. So I'm still looking.

    KARAOKE
Well, tonight's the night. Hope things go well. Thanks for stopping over, Ruel. Kuya Jon, I'm gonna kill you for leaving me with... um... nevermind... Go drag drag drag... I can't wait to see that.

Okay everyone. I hope you all have fun... oops! Wait I forgot something.. or 2 things...

    SUMMER BALL/SUMMER DANCE
#1. Okay... Here's the suggestion. What do you think of a MOS Summer Ball? Kind of like a Christmas ball, you know, the whole sha-bang, except in summer. ^_^ We can try to get it real cheap (we'll be doing the tickets and shit).

#2. The other one is a Summer DANCE... That would be a little cheaper, like one of those high school/middle school dances.. You know what I'm saying? That was Ruel's idea. Just no fancy dresses or picture takings and stuff like that. This one is more... um... budgetty...? ^_^
