W-CDMA (wideband code division multiple access) is a technique defined as the next generation
mobile telecommunication system IMT-2000 whose standardization, targeted for 2000, is under way by
the ITU.
Goals of the IMT-2000 standard are a voice conversation with the quality of wire telephones and high-speed
data communication at 2 Mbps during stopping, 384 kbps during walking, and 144 kbps during
high-speed movement. These characteristics will be used to develop moving image distribution or
other communication applications.
