The International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS2002) is sponsored by the Brazilian Telecommunications Society (Sociedade Brasileira de Telecomunicações - SBrT) and the IEEE Communications Society (COMSOC), and provides a unique forum for presentation of technological advances and research results. Four previous Symposia were successfully held in Rio de Janeiro (1990, 1994), in Acapulco (1996) and in São Paulo (1998). ITS2002 will be held in Natal, Brazil, on September 8-12, 2002, in the Pirâmide Palace Hotel. Natal is the capital and main city of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, on the Brazilian Northeast coast, famous for its beautiful and sunny beaches.

ITS2002 will consist of a program of tutorials and technical sessions that covers the full range of communications. The technical program will be augmented by a track of hot-topic panel sessions and talks that promise to generate spirited exchanges by invited panelists from the key communication industries and universities around the world.

According to the Editor of the Journal of the Brazilian Telecommunications Society, Prof. Max Gerken, the best papers submitted to ITS2002 will be considered by the Editorial Board to be published in a special edition of the Journal, after a brief review process.
