Subject: UMBC signs two Jersey guards

They may be finished in the late signing period, even though they desperately need a power forward or small forward to replace Peter Mulligan. But thanks to the worst rule in NCAA history, (5-3 rule)since UMBC has signed four already (C Andrew Feeley and G Malik Wallace). I would expect Eugene Young to see considerable time next year and he could start at center, if they move Will McClurkin to power forward.

(Here's the release).
A PAIR OF JERSEY GUARDS SIGN AT UMBC

A pair of New Jersey guards, Cranford's Mike Snyder and Cedar
Grove's Rob Gogerty have signed National Letters of Intent to attend UMBC,
it was announced today by Retriever Head Basketball Coach Tom Sullivan.

Snyder is 6'2", 175-lb. "combo-guard" who earned First Team All
State honors in Group III. He was the Player of the Year in Union County
and earned Second Team All State honors from The Asbury Park Press and
Third Team honors fom The Newark Star Ledger. He finished his career as
the leading scorer in Cranford HS history with 1,454 and the leader in
career assists with 312. This season, he averaged 23.7 points, 7.8
rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for the 16-11 Cougars. Snyder hit 48%
from the floor, 39% from three-point range and 74% from the free throw
line.

Gogerty can also play either guard spot at 6'1", 165 lbs. He was a
First Team All Conference selection during his last three seasons at Cedar
Grove and earned Third Team All State honors in Group I this past season.
Gogerty averaged 25.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 8.0 apg this season and captained
the team for the second consecutive season. He is a three-sport letterman
at Cedar Grove, also earning all-conference honors in football
(quarterback) and baseball (infielder).
