Subject: Calling Mongo!

Mike, thanks for the heads-up--but I'm pretty sure that message did not originate from my PC. I have a daily-updated antivirus, plus ZoneAlarm firewall. I scanned my entire drive this morning and found zilch. I too have received weird emails supposedly from folks who post on this board--I've gotten them from Ronsonbeck, Snakelady and a couple others. The email is supposed to have some kind of game attached, but I always got just the text and nothing else. My antivirus stuff has always removed contaminated files before I can open them...however, just in case this is a well-hidden trojan or something,, give a call tonight around 7 if you can, and maybe you can point me to where it is lurking...no one else seems to have gotten it from me (yet!).
thanks again,
mike

Hi Folks,
Sorry this subject is a little off topic.

Mike, are you talking about the "bugbear" virus? Another nice little thing someone has gone and made, just to make my life at work less boring. I was mail bombed last week at work, and spent the better part of the last 4 days with some form of virus scan as my best friend. I have the care and feeding of 5 computers under my belt. Then I come home Monday night to discover the postmaster has "returned mail" for me, which I never sent. Needless to say, the scanning started all over. Lucky for me, none of my computers is infected, but some one I mail or post to is.

Both Symantec and McAfee have "bugbear removal tools" on their web sites. I recommend everyone update their virus softwear and use the tool, just for your own peace of mind.

I have had other mail returned to me, as if I had sent it, and received mail from others on this board, with no text or attachment (my postmaster may have removed it). It may be wise for a while to add 'nospam' into your email address, as I have done, to prevent 'bots from stealing your address.

Huggles

Marie
Back at KRF this weekend, anyone want to fondle my soft skins? We have comfy evil slippers........ ;-)

I too use Norton Antivirus and it checks all incoming e-mail. I received an e-mail this morning which triggered the virus alert (the questionable files were quarantined) and the next thing in my inbox was a an empty e-mail (Outlook also blocks scripts)

Since I recognized the e-mail address (sort of... I knew it was a rennie but at 6AM not all the proper cross tables in my brain were populated) so I fired off the friendly e-mail. I don't know if it was bugbear or not.

I might still have the message in the trash and I can try and take a look at the header. Either way I'll give you a call tonight so we can try and sort it out.

I have the bugbear fix on floppy and will run it tonight when I get in, but I'm pretty sure mt PC is clean. Can't be too careful though. Like I said, I scanned my entire C (the only drive I have) and it came up clean as a KRF privvy. Er, let me rephrase that...;-)
