I took Happy to the beach today, and i'm honestly not sure if he's ever been there before. We approached the sand carefully and Happy stepped delicately onto it. He got such a fright at the softness of it, he shied and bucked. I dismounted quickly and lead him over it. Once he'd calmed down and mounted and we trotted towards the sea. This was another new experience for Happy and he snorted pleasureably and dipped his hooves into the cool blue waves. I warmed him up gently, circling in and out of the waves at a walk and trot.
I turned to face a miles of almost empty beach and nudged him gently. It happened so naturally, he silkily went into a gentle canter, that gradually stretched into a racing gallop. Racing the birds in the sky, we thundered along the beach, jumping logs, until we reached a trail of hoofprints. I brought Happy to a walk and we followed them to find Anna riding her horse on the dunes. We trotted up to her and went home together, walking our sweaty horses.
