Utopia is actually an ancient Greek word meaning "Nowhere" because it's thought that there is no such place/thing as paradise-nowhere can be that good. It has come to mean a paradise and there are many utopian and distopian novels. Most modern novels of this genre are distopian because of the disillusionment caused by such events as the second world war. e.g.s are Lord of the Flies, The Handmaid's Tale, 1984 etc. Brave New World is obviously a distopian novel too.
