Thank you Chris...

I have to say, so far I love Heroes. It is your classic comic book come to life kind of show (think Greatest American Hero, sans most of the cheese, and snazzy theme song.) The difference so far is that the explanation of their powers has nothing to do with aliens, ancient artifacts, symbiont organisms, "gamma" rays, or toxic chemicals. On the contrary, these individuals represent the potential of human-kind... the next natural step in human evolution.

The Good:
Good concept, and something for everyone. There's a cop, a drug addict, a politician, a philanthropist, a web cam girl, a Japanese star trek geek, even a sadomasochistic cheerleader... This show has it all.

The Bad:
So far, there are at least 7 main characters, with a handful of supporting characters, and it seems they are adding more every episode. This isn't a drawback necessarily, it works with lost. However, with so many "main" characters (and one "mein"... sorry...) it will be difficult for them to avoid the arduously slow pace of large ensemble shows.

The Ugly:
Effects... So far, the effects have been less than phenominal (think Alias 1st-3rd season.) The flying scene was awkward... even if it was meant to be awkward, it could have looked better. The everlasting cheerleader has gotten mangled in some way in these first two episodes, and there have been some less than spectacular cg effects to go with it. This distresses me only because Masayori Oka (Hiro) is, or at least was employed by ILM, and has a great resume in visual effects. I know the effects will get better... they would almost have to.

Overall, I would have to say give this one a chance... If you havent seen the pilot episode, find it, and then give it two or three episodes. But be prepared... Given it's complexity, if it does not get renewed for next season, you will most definately be left with little closeure.

Back to you Chris
