I suppose everyone has been in anticipation long enough. Here is the long explanation, because I love talking about it - I'm so excited!

I'd like to thank Ada for freaking Gayla out. Gayla called me when she couldn't take the guessing anymore! Sorry, Gayla, no lil' Leia anytime soon.

So, after about a month of searching and deciding what we wanted and the month and counting of trying to close, Dan and I are buying a house here. We were supposed to close on the 24th, then tomorrow, and now next Thursday. Everything was ready on our side, we are just waiting for the title to clear.

Here is the story, because I think it is funny. The house was built in 1991. The builder built it for himself and his family (which means good, quality construction!). In 1995, the builder got an itch and found a younger piece of, um, butt. Needless to say, the marriage broke up. He married the homewrecker and moved out of the state. The house was rented until last year, when the builder died. He left the house and some other local properties to his wife and his children from the first marriage. The positive about the situation is that she has no ties to the house, and the proceeds of the sale are bonus income. The negative is that we are still waiting for the trust for the children to be set up.

Anyway, we got a good deal. It's a bit of a fixer-upper. It is a 3/2.5 two story house with a full basement. It needs a lot of paint and some landscaping. It has some wallpaper, carpet, and vinyl that HAS to go. The ceiling of the kitchen looks like someone with no taste or talent tried to redo it to create recessed lighting. Also, someone thought it would be a good idea to put siding up around the porch off of the basement. We don't know what they were thinking, but we are buying a crowbar and getting rid of it. The shutters are an awful sea green. It's going to need some time and work. The house construction and layout are great, but the decorating is awful. We also need to get familiar with the use of hedge clippers.

The positive: hardwood floors and thick crown molding in the sitting room, dining room, foyer and half bath; ceramic tile in the two upstairs bathrooms; a large upstairs laundry room; cathedral ceilings in the large master bedroom and master bath; a garden tub with a window in my master bath; a two car garage in the basement; an unfinished room and bathroom in the basement; an attic fan (I just love them); and a nice fireplace; and a screen room off of the eat-in kitchen area. Also I love the decking and porchs. There is a front porch and a large back deck off of the first floor over a porch off of the basement. There is also a small deck off of the master bedroom.

Thank goodness for bad paint and wallpaper! We wouldn't have been able to get this house otherwise. I'm in love with it and can't wait to move in. Gayla, Ada, and Lanie--you all better love it, too!

I have pictures. I don't know how to post them, but I'll e-mail them to anyone who cares to see.

So, we are putting down roots, at least for a little while. Bye-bye apartment with hideous wallpaper I can't change, Hello house with hideous wallpaper I can change! I am planning a very colorful house with NO wallpaper at all. I want to get creative with faux finishes and other painting techniques. Perhaps Gayla has some ideas for me in her design scrapbook?

Also, as a side effect, I am now addicted to HGTV. Are any of you?
