The rattly inn door opened as the figure of a small maid emerged from the tavern. A soft jingle of keys followed as the satisfying click of the lock shut the door. Alena smiled to herself, prideful of her inn. The town of Solan was pretty, in the lonely morning forest way. A few birds dared to break the town's silence, cheerfully piping a note or two as they flitted upon the grey roofs.
"I think I'll pay a visit to my old friend," The innkeeper sound aloud, knowing it just as well to speak to herself. "Who needs firewood when there's no customers to warm, or travelers to feed?"
Left to her musings, the girl skipped to the stables, turning over her shoulder as if to laugh with a friend.
