thank you, thank you *takes a bow*
well, medeis, no wonder you couldn't use any of the keys! you were still in the intro! when the first prayer is spoken and you (a goddess!) are born, the people thank you and start bowing to you. they'll keep doing that until you right click the mouse to resume the game and begin the tutorial. it will say in a bar along the bottom of the screen what to do next, or else it will have a little icon of a mouse with the mouse button glowing that you need to click to resume.
like, it'll show a bar edged in white that says "use the action button (the right click mouse button) to pick up the tree." and so forth. OR it will have in the bottom right corner of your screen a little picture of a mouse. you know how the mouse has two buttons, a right and left? well, sometimes on the little icon the left button will be glowing, indicating you need to click that one. otherwise it'll show the right button glowing.
when your people are bowing on the beach after you save the little boy, the mouse icon will appear and you need to simply right-click on the mouse and the game will resume. the little devil and old guy are your conscience. sometimes they'll sit and argue over what you should do. the devil, naturally, wants you to commit evil acts (like encouraging your creature to eat villagers, hee hee!) while the little old guy in white will want you to be angelic. they serve two purposes: first, they give you insight into how to play the game (tutorial), and they're good entertainment and comic relief. they give you little reminders if you're not clicking on the silver/gold scrolls, give you tips like uprooting trees to supply your village store, how to use your keypad and mouse to maneuver in the game, that kind of thing.
and they have the most hilarious dialogues. but this game is really a fully mouse-interactive game. the keyboard is simply used as a supplement. it's mostly the mouse that does everything. which is good, if you're into taking your time on a game. (not like starcraft where hotkeys are vital to victory, no matter which race you play as) the tutorial on this game is excellent. the first two lands are almost expressly a detailed education on how to play the game, while still being engaging and having a great storyline even though it's a pretty straightforward plot.
but there! that's how you get past the people bowing! you have to be observant if you don't want to miss anything. the mouse icon it shows is pretty small, but look in the bottom right corner of your screen. it should be there! :0) hope i've been of some help!
