well, 'tis very possible that if you don't go near it than you'll never know what you're missing......
then again, let's say you do get B&W and play the single player first. you get into the story, get the hang of multi-tasking watching over your villagers and supplying food for the store and wood for the shop to make houses, buildings, farms (which are hella expensive in wood to make...), and wonders of the world. plus, there are your worshippers at your temple that need constant supplies of food otherwise they die (they don't stop to rest, only to eat, the fevered fanatics!), not to mention the ever-demanding duty of molding your Creature into the fine avatar of your godliness that you deserve. this includes teaching him that villagers are not tasty snacks...unless, of course, you're a jealous and vengeful god that approves of a villager hors d'ouvre once in a while; potty-training (my stupid horse still insists on shitting on my shrines!); teaching it to perform miracles; teaching it to duel; and teaching it to fend for itself like sleeping when it's tired and eating when it's hungry.
and all this while converting other villages, completing quests, and fending off hostile gods that want nothing more than to obliterate you and take drastic measures to accomplish exactly that.
you could certainly keep yourself busy doing nothing but getting through one round of single player in B&W. i know that so far i've logged in almost 20 hours and i'm barely on my first round of single player in land 3...and there are 2 more lands i have yet to advance to! that's what i mean about versatile and unlike any other pc game yet written.
however..... there is nothing better than knowing you've mastered your game against a machine and now want to test yourself against a more creative and crafty opponent. namely another human being. or you might want to develop comradeship with another diety and use teamwork and creative conspiracy to overcome your mutual godly enemies. there's nothing like adding the element of the unexpected. the X factor, if you will, that only comes from interacting with other human beings.
it's the only way to game, baby!
