okay, medeis, you asked me before about gargoyles. now you're in for it! :0)

gargoyles are more than mere living stone, and so far removed from demons it's not even funny. of course, you always have your rare, blackguard rogue, but that's something else entirely.
gargoyles are among the most noble of creatures, and certainly the most loyal, and steadfast to their duty. it's ingrained in them, something in their blood.
they were created as guardians of all the races on the planet. so gargoyles that were created to guard elves, for example, would be longer-lived than gargoyles created to guard humans because naturally elves live longer than humans, so elven gargoyles would need to live longer as well. and they live about 3 times as long as the race they're bound to protect because they're bound to protect a generation, their children, and their childrens' children.
(pretty neat stuff, huh?)
unlike many other creatures of the night that must earn their souls, gargoyles were created with souls already. which is why you can still have the (very, very rare) rogue gargoyle that make people end up branding the entire species as demons.
but almost always, you'll find a gargoyle loyal, steadfast, duty bound, and entirely honest at all times. not to mention quite noble.
the tragedy of gargoyles is that they have lost touch with one another. when avalon disassociated from the rest of the world and lost itself in its shroud of mist, the gargoyles still on avalon could not keep contact with the ones that got left behind. duty kept the ones here from leaving their post as humans' guardians, and as a result they lost all contact with their other brethren.
(are you sniffling yet and reaching for the tissue?)
there's much more i've learned about them, but so much is debated. especially when you consider how much about avalon is debated and uncertain. for example, some say arthur is merely sleeping there on that island, while others say he is dead.
however, to me, gargoyles are the most noble, gentle, and loyal of creatures, and i am proud to associate myself with them.

:0)
