Should the underage marrage be lowered to 16? -- Rowena, 22:23:10 04/29/01 Sun
The legal age to have sex is 16 but the legal age to get married is 18. With parents' approval, teenagers under 18 can get married. Some social worker are now sugeest underage marriage as a solution to pre-marital pregnancy.Should the underage marrage be lowered to 16?

Well, I don't think it is a good idea.
Many teenagers have not had sex yet just becuse they cannot afford the consequence such as premarital pregnancy. However, once they are allowed to get marry underage, having premarital sex may become a subject to abuse. For them, the marrage may just become a license to have sex.As a result, the morale of the young generation will be lower and their studies will also be affected.Besides, they may get a wrong concept that "getting marry is for solving the problem of premarital pregnancy, not for love".
