Subject: Shock

"Come on Arabelle, come on my pretty one." Taunia coaxes the timid Herid female in slowly, the big paws flopping a bit as Arabelle's muzzle droops near the ground. "River, stop combing my hair, it's alright!" The blue and gold Demeur trills his displeasure at being interrupted, but crouches on her shoulder. Finally, Arabelle skitters to Taunia's side, the young Qyne's ears perking in pleasure. Taunia sets up, unfurling sleeping blankets from her pack, and drapes one down for Arabelle. But as she prepares to let down her braids, Arabelle drapes her large frame across Taunia's legs, looking up with plaintive eyes. "You can stay there. I bet it's like the warmth of your sisters, your brothers."

Brothers.... Tayo Bonding, the storm, her swift departure. "I miss him, Arabelle, I miss him." River cuddles into Taunia's neck, upset by his mistress's distress. Arabelle merely slumps, as if in sympathy. "Brother no more, the moon weeps for me. Brother no more, my heart bears sorrow as wine in a full skin." She whispers a sad song her parents had taught her, one that now had true significance for her. Unable to sleep, she draws herself around the Herid, River curling up on her head. Sorrowful dark eyes twist with the fire as she merely lies still, waiting for the shock of separation and lonesomeness to wear off.
