I see that Beat Crazy is now unavailable on CD. I had the opportunity to pick up a copy at a used CD store a year or so ago, but I passed. Can anyone tell me what it's like? Also, I've never owned Jumpin' Jive either. I'm trying to get a copy of Live 1980-1986, but I've read some not so encouraging reviews.

Beat Crazy is OK though not his best, Jumpin' Jive is altogether a different kettle of fish. It was a labour of love for Joe and, providing you enjoy the likes of Louis Jordan and swing music in general, is a great album.

I have Live 80-86 and, if your collection is incomplete, would recommend it thoroughly.

Beat Crazy happens to be my favorite JJ album, followed by Blaze of Glory. And I agree that the Live 1980-86 compilation is essential.
