Hi everyone. I just came back from the Barcelona concert. This is the city where I was born and where I "felt in love" (musically) with Joe when I saw him perform live for the first time during the I'm The Man Tour, on March 30, 1980 to be precise. I was 14 years old then, and that concert was so damn unbelievable that I immediately became a JJ fan for the rest of my days. 23 years later, and after having seen Joe during the Big World, Blaze of Glory, Laughter and Lust, Night Music and Night & Day II tours, the original Band from my first JJ concert performs in a venue that was even smaller than the one from 1980, and this time I manage to be in front row.

I'm now 37 years old and I certainly wasn't the youngest in the audience, but I definitely *felt* as if I was the youngest. I was 4 feet from Joe (3 feet when he was playing the keyboards), and I couldn't help but jumpin', dancing, clapping and smiling of joy during the whole concert. Gary (who seems to be one of the happiest men on earth) immediately took notice of my attitude and in several occasions looked at me and smiled. The guy didn't stop jumping in most of the songs and I couldn't do less. At the end of the concert he gently gave me his plectrum (which I'm holding in my hand as I type this).

I also got the setlist sheet, which can be viewed at the page below, along with Gary's plectrum and the concert ticket:

(Note that they performed Dirty Martiny instead of Still Alive, and it seems to be true that Joe doesn't know which solos he's going to perform until he actually sits on the keyboard. The encores aren't included in the initial setlist either)

Although the sound wasn't the best, I think all the audience could feel all the energy coming from Gary's guitar, the virtuosity from Graham's bass (Graham looked shier than usual during the whole concert, BTW), the precision of Dave's drums, and the absolute genious of Joe, the man. All four band members seem to enjoy greatly what they do, up to a level that makes me predict they will perform together again in future albums and tours. Actually, Joe said that the album was called "Volume 4" because they were four members (that was a joke he made first), then he said very serious that it was "their fourth album" -although there had been a big "gap" between the last one and this one :-)

Some of the show's highlights included "Bright Grey" (one of my favorite songs from Volume 4); "Is She Really Going Out With Him?", especially the ending with Joe fooling everyone with the "something going wrong around... *here*" part, which he located wherever he wanted but where the audience expected :-) ; a wonderful performance of "Real Men" (he mentioned that it was his cover of the Tori Amos cover :-)) and an extremely powerful performance of "Beat Crazy", whith wich the band succeeded for the second time in travelling back in time to their first years (the first time was their excellent performance of "Sunday Papers"). But none of this could be compared to "Don't Wanna Be Like That", followed by "Got The Time". THAT was PURE Joe Jackson Band from 1979-80, especially "Don't Wanna Be...", with Joe literarily falling on his knees at the end of the song, while I myself was in extasy, back to my first JJ concert 23 years ago... Pure Magic!

"Got The Time" left everyone exhausted, and a few minutes later a very emotional performance of "It's Different For Girls" and a wild and almost-chaotic "I'm The Man" put an end to a show that was, in my opinion, almost as good as the 1980 concert, and certainly one of the best concerts I've seen in my entire life.

Thank you Joe, Gary, Graham and Dave.

-- Ricard.
