I, and many others, don't believe for a second that SRF's active involvement in the sexual harassment lawsuit against Ananda was out of compassion for the women. They hoped, and tried, to prove 'tarnishment' against Ananda in their copyright lawsuits.

This effort failed. From the Yogananda Rediscovered website:

SRF filed its lawsuit against Ananda in 1990 in order to strengthen its control over Yogananda's mission. It didn't work. By 1994, SRF saw control slipping away. Instead of enforcing SRF's trademarks on "Self-Realization" and "Paramhansa Yogananda," the court canceled them.

There was still one way for SRF to have the benefit of trademarks without actually owning them. If the public were confused as to the relationship between SRF and Ananda, and if such confusion in some way "tarnished" SRF's reputation, then the court could order Ananda to cease doing anything that might add to the confusion. At the top of the list would be Ananda's use of the term "Self-Realization" and the name "Paramhansa Yogananda."

Ananda knew that "tarnishment" was the only option SRF had left. Sooner or later we assumed they would try to prove it.

The fact that SRF was trying to cover up their own sexual harassment at the time shows that they are not all that interested in women's rights.
