Interesting! I just saw this note in yesterday's Parade Magazine in the LA Times about Dennis Weaver in answer to someone's question, "Is Dennis Weaver of TV's Gunsmoke still working?"

"I host the Starz Westerns channel and do the voice of a cowboy on The Simpsons, says Weaver, 77. But for 20 years, my focus has been solving environmental problems via business opportunities." "He travels the world with wife of 56 years, Gerry, promoting this idea, called ecolonomics. It's a big part of his memoirs, 'All the World's a Stage,' due out next month.

He's someone who has really lived the teachings of PY and made an excellent example for householders. He was the mayor of a small city near LA for awhile. As Thomas said he was a lay minister at the Lake Shrine for years.

My step-father who was a animal-handler for movies and t.v. knew Dennis Weaver when both worked on Flipper and Gentle Ben. When, as an 18 year old, I brought home the AY my step-father said that Dennis Weaver had mentioned PY while they worked on those series. He said that D. Weaver wasn't a fanatic, making other's uncomfortable with his spirituality; that he'd sometimes join them for a beer, also he was a vegetarian but didn't wear that on his sleeve. My step-father painted him as a regular joe, down to earth.

At the 1970 Convocation at the Biltmore Hotel he was one of the honored member's to sit up on the dais with the monastics during the closing banquet ceremony. In fact I remember that he was kind of the Master of Ceremonies, introducing the various speakers among the monastics (he was the only lay person-other than "Yogacharya" Binay Narayan).

On the same note. Dennis Weaver was the co-star of Gunsmoke, the popular TV show of the 60's. The star was the actor, James Arness (Marshall Dillon). Once at a Friday night 3 hour meditation at the Hollywood Temple I sat behind him. Arness was accompanied by Brenda Lewis (Dr's daughter) and her husband, John Rosser (I believe his name is spelled).

Great to reminence.

Bill
