HOW DOES IT RELATE TO KRIYA YOGA?

Norman Paulsen learned kriya yoga from Paramahansa Yogananda, having spent four years in the monastery at Mt. Washington in Los Angeles with him. Norman practiced an advanced form of Kriya, one which Yogananda did not teach to the general public. This was because it involved being able to perform kechari mudra. If you are familiar with that mudra, then you know that very few people can readily perform it. Since Norman could readily do so, he practiced kriya more along the lines that Sri Yukteswar (Yogananda's teacher) taught it, not the way the Yogananda had modified it to make it easier for westerners.

It was Yogananda�s intention to "get the ball rolling," so to speak, for westerners in regard to meditation. To do so, he modified the technique in order to expose it to westerners and at least get people started with it ... and Yogananda succeeded wonderfully in that purpose.

Now, Sri Yukteswar wrote a book called The Holy Science. In that book, Sri Yukteswar presents the concept of the cycle of the yugas. If you understand this concept, then you realize that now that we are on the upswing of the cycle of consciousness, as the years go by it will become easier for people to understand the nature of Divine Spirit and to understand concepts, like meditation techniques, related thereto.

Since the time that Babaji taught kriya to Lahiri Mahasaya, and even since the time when Yogananda was here in the physical, we have entered a new density of energy, which now allows a deeper understanding. Norman has succeeded in attaining contact with the very Being of Light that is the goal of Kriya and the Source of all images, that Light that Lahiri Mahasaya spoke of when he said, "You must penetrate the star;" that brilliant Sun that Yogananda spoke of when he wrote, "I did not know that in the inky darkness of my mind I could behold the Sun of Cosmic consciousness." Directly from this Light, Norman has been instructed to enhance kriya in ways that make it possible to attain God-realization without having to be able to perform kechari mudra. If one can perform kechari mudra it will still make the technique even better, but it is not absolutely necessary to be able to accomplish the ultimate goal.

We say that the Solar Logos Meditation technique parallels advanced Kriya, yet really, as you can see, it is a further refinement even of what Babaji taught. It includes an understanding of the crown chakra and its purpose. It uses both Sacred Forces, masculine and feminine, and it explains what the image that has been called the spiritual eye really is.

The book and video, Sacred Science and Sacred Science of Meditation, teach this technique as well as the whole spiritual path that we must walk to attain God-realization, Christ consciousness. It explains the cosmology of the universe, as well as our own cosmology in a very understandable way. (Most people seem to find The Holy Science to be difficult to understand.) Babaji visited Norman some years ago when he first started teaching this technique and acknowledged what Norman was doing. Yogananda, himself, visited Norman recently, expressed his support for what Norman is teaching, and asked Norman to include a certain picture of him and Yogananda in Sacred Science. It was a picture taken shortly before Norman left the monastery, when Yogananda blessed him and sent him on his way and told Norman that soon he, Yogananda, would be leaving the earthly plane. It is Yogananda�s hope that people who are devoted to his work will receive this next evolution in the teaching. Christ consciousness is available now to all who sincerely seek it.
