The Mother was Mirra Alfassa, the spiritual companion of the yogi Sri Aurobindo. A French lady of Jewish/Turkish and ancient Egyptian descent with occult abilities who later became a yogini and went to India. She surrendered to Sri Aurobindo, became the Mother of his Ashram and died in 1973 at age 95.

In the late 1920's, and then again in the 1950's she held a lot of talks with children in the ashram playground in Pondicherry. They were all in French, someone made notes of these talks, and the translation into English - which I was quoting from - was done by a disciple and later published in 17 volumes under the title "Collected Works of the Mother" (possibly out of print now).

In the following two decades she also held regular private talks with a French disciple who taped and transcribed them. These have been published in 13 volumes as "Mother's Agenda". The ashram hates it and managed to close down a website featuring the Agenda, for supposed copyright reasons. These talks are different as she speaks freely about her own sadhana and what else comes to her mind - private talks.

However, someone has put the whole thing back online on a Russian server.

Personally I find a lot of what she says very helpful for my understanding and to the point and can't help quoting from these books occasionally.
