Yes, we all have a purpose to our lives. It varies among people in the details, but is the same for all of us in the broadest sense. Yes, most people have no sense of what it is for them.
But it is not a matter of classifying people or anything being predestined, (except in the broadest terms). It is a matter of what is in people's hearts.
Yes, many people do live their lives in vain, but do not find that out until it is over ... then they come back to try again ... we are all stuck on this wheel of life and death until we make it out of here conscious of who we really are.
You know, in the beginning it may have been something akin to God slinging some mud against a cosmic wall and saying, "Hey, that looks cool!" But once he saw what could be done, He/She actually thought of a reason to sling more mud around ... and here we are, each one trying to figure out why God did it (Some, of course, are trying to figure out if there was even a God that did it).
