You are perfectly right. One should always discount opinions based on natural bias, since we all have them. But I have to add that I remember with affection Yogananda as my first Kriya teacher. As a child I knew him well. I regarded him as an uncle. He was then my father's best friend. He was at my family's dinner table all the time, he dropped by almost daily, he gave me many Kriya lessons, I watched him give them to others. Small things that were memorable include his humor, Christmas parties at Mt. Washington, where there was a well thought out gift for each person, and impromptu rather large parties in the parks and countryside. I have a real person to remember, not just an image from books.
