I agree with your position on this post. I spoke with Mr. Paulsen about kechari specifically and he stated that when Yogananda heard and saw Norm perform kechari (as stated in Paulsen's book, The Christ Consciousness)he told Norman that kechari mudra was an important technique for deepening meditation. Yogananda stated according to Norman that he figured it would be too much for Westerners "to swallow your tongue to see God" and decided to leave it out of kriya for the every day man and woman of that time. Those who were close to him and had more personal time; monks & nuns of the Order, and some householders were instructed by him in Kechari from what I've gathered.

I think that it's important for people to know about Kechari Mudra but I'm not among the mindset that thinks that it's essential. Even Paulsen's present organization The Solar Logos Foundation teaches that kechari can help but if you can't do it for some reason or it's just uncomfortable then it's no big deal.
