In response to your specific questions, can one experience light, bliss, leaving the body, etc. without Kechari Mudra....
There are many stages and levels of Bliss, light; sound as nada...even without kechari--we all know this.
But that is not the main point here. The point is that Lahiri Mahasaya gave Omkar Kriyas only if Kechari was acheived first along with a certain other experience. Now, he did this so that one could benefit from the acceleration of Omkar Kriyas. This is all i can say on the subject. It is a matter between Guru and Shishya.
